Job Role

Our Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeship will give you a thorough introduction into surveying, by being actively involved within a small, niche and dynamic firm of specialist surveyors. The role will include working closely with our award winning team of Chartered Surveyors, specialising in property tax, and supporting with our technical project delivery.

Your role will include working with our established technical team; analysing Capital Allowances claims, undertaking site surveys, as well as helping with business development tasks.

This Apprentice Quantity Surveyor role is ideal if you have the drive and commitment to see tasks through to completion and have a genuine interest in property. It will enable you to develop your technical skills in a busy office environment, as you will have being involved in all aspects of the business.

You will be reporting to the Managing Director Alun Oliver, who will support you with your development of property, tax & business knowledge. You will also have a buddy and mentor to support you during your time at E3 Consulting.

The role will include:

  • Interpreting drawings, measurements and take off
  • Analysing bills of quantities, contract sums and final accounts
  • Supporting the team in conducting site surveys of properties across the UK
  • Drafting tenders and proposal documents for new projects
  • Researching and identifying sales prospects and targets
  • Supporting members of the tax team with project delivery
  • Data collection, entry and analysis of Capital Allowances costs including new build, redevelopment, extensions and improvements on current projects
  • Attending client service meetings
  • Developing and applying an understanding of Capital Allowances, Land Remediation Relief, Community Infrastructure Levy and other Property Tax reliefs
  • Supporting with case law research, reviewing and maintaining legal library
  • Helping maintain our Customer Relationship management (CRM) & project workflow database
  • Attending and participating in company seminars
  • Representing the company as an ambassador at seminars and networking events

On-the-job training

E3 Consulting understands the importance of supporting staff throughout their studies and the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) development process. You will be supported with a combination of:

  • Practical & applied on the job experience
  • Specific in-house technical training
  • Specific in-house transferable/soft skills training e.g. presentation and telephone skills

In addition to your APC diary you will be asked to keep a structured reflection and learning log. This will act as a reference point for technical learning, transferable skills and personal & professional development to ensure that you will develop a practical & commercial knowledge throughout your completion of the APC and beyond.

You will have regular reviews to support both your RICS diary and reflection and learning logs; to regular meetings to discuss and agree with you, your training needs, to ensure you receive the necessary support and guidance.

Mode of Study

Off-the-job training will be provided by the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) with fees fully funded. You will achieve a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying. Rather than attending formal lectures or classes, you will study using UCEM’s state-of-the-art online learning environment and digital library, supported with guidance from highly experienced tutors.

Upon completion of the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and the structured workplace learning you will undertake the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence leading to registration with the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor.

In addition to the academic training provided by the UCEM you will also be supported with a combination of other external training:

  • External Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training e.g. with RICS
  • Support with both networking and volunteering e.g. Southampton Property Association


  • The entry requirements for the apprenticeship is a minimum of three A levels at Grade C or higher or their equivalent or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline:

- National Certificates and National Diplomas will be considered but must have good merit and distinction profiles (excluding common skills).

- Any HNCs and HNDs will be considered.

  • In addition, Level 2 maths and English (GCSE grade C and above or equivalent) qualifications are required.
